Sometimes the kindest and most loving thing someone could do for you is tell you what you don’t want to hear. I’d say we do people a huge disservice by telling them whatever we think will make them the most comfortable or happy. It’s in true, yet kind, honesty that people are able to see themselves and the areas in which they need to grow. To me, that is what empathy is really all about. Empathy is not just “I feel what you feel”, but it’s also knowing what someone needs, even when they don’t realize they need it, and being brave enough to let them know. Some people may not be ready to hear it, some may lash out at you or themselves. However, some people will receive your words, feel the sting, and use it as a way to change and grow. There have only been a few moments in my life where I feel that people were truly honest with me, even when they probably would have much rather comforted me, and in my opinion, that is one of the greatest shows of love.
Honesty is the greatest act of love there is
